Friday Letters

Dear 3 Day Weekend:  I have been waiting on you for a really long time.  Dear Stephanie and Mia:  I am really going to miss you, but so excited for your new home in Virginia Beach.  Dear Car Organization Kit I made:  I love you.  You have come through for me so many times this week.  When I spilled my coffee, when I needed a trash bag, and today, when I needed a bandaid.  Dear Organization: let's get married.  Dear Matt:  I am really excited to get to spend this weekend with you.

Happy Friday!

Wednesday Randoms

Hello love!  Lots of random thoughts and phone pics from today.

1.  I have been making a delicious protein iced coffee for breakfast every morning. 1 giant cup of coffee (largest Keurig setting), 1 scoop of protein powder, and lots o ice.  Shake and drink.

It would be awesome if I could actually drink however. I spilled it all over me as I was driving to visit clinics today. Thank goodness I have on a dress that hides it pretty well. Proof:

2.  Speaking of visiting clinics, I realize that I always take the stairs in the office complexes, however, I am out of breath when I go into the offices.  I should probably stop that.  Or get my ass to the gym.

3.  I made Matt and I matching beach towels.  He is going to love it.  And by love it, I really mean hate it.

One time I unintentionally bought us matching swimsuits.  It was right before our trip to Cozumel and I was trying to find swimsuits in November.  Have you ever tried that??  Basically impossible.  So I picked out one for each of us that was 1) decent and 2) in our size and packed them away.  Matt to this day still swears I did it on purpose.   I wish I did, but unfortunately I am not smart enough to think that way....

4.  While embroidering the above towels, my machine kept screwing up* on me. The damn thing broke 4 needles.  And, it worked perfectly on my test run (on a crappy garage towel)

*note: my machine works perfectly. it is generally messed up by operator error.

5.  I take myself way to seriously.  I need to learn to lighten up.

6.  Matt and I have something planned for the next 4 weekends.  I fully expect our house to be a wreck and absolutely no projects to be done during that time.  I am preparing myself now.

Ok, I think that is all for now.  I should probably get off the couch and head to the gym.

Music Monday - Drew Womack

Let me just say that I love Drew Womack.  We see him pretty often at Steiner Ranch Steakhouse and he never dissapoints.  You might know him from his old band, Sons of the Desert.  He sang back up on Leann Womack's (no relation) song "I Hope You Dance" and also wrote "She's Got it All", which Kenny Cheesey Chesney took to number 1 in 1997.

He just released a new album, Sunshine to Rain, and it is awesome.  Some of the songs are so different than what we are used to hearing from him, which isn't a bad thing.

Here is one of my favorite songs by him:

Here is a song on his new album:

Some of my other favorite songs by Drew:
If Anyone Asks (recorded by Randy Rogers Band)
Leaving October
Fast Way to Texas (which should also be called Fastest, Longest Waltz in Texas---when he plays
it acoustic, he slows it down for Matt and I to dance to)
Sunshine to Rain

Enjoy the tunes!

Succulent Frame

I have been wanting to make a living wall art/succulent frame for awhile now.  I keep seeing everyone posting different options Pinterest lately.  I happen to find this one pre-Pinterest day (March 2011 to be exact!):

A few weeks ago I decided to use what I had on hand to create one.  I took an old picture frame (that I had spray painted white a while back), some wire (purchased from Lowe's for this project), and some old screening off the back porch door that Addie destroyed.  I put the wire on bottom, stapled the screen on the back and then filled with dirt.

I had a few cuttings on hand but not much variety, so off to Lowe's (again!) I went to find some more.  I found a wicker planter shaped like a coffee cup full of succulents on clearance.    Imagine this half full of dying succulents:

It was U-G-L-Y (you ain't got no alibi, you ugly...).  Hope that is stuck in your head now :)  You're welcome!  So I ripped it all apart, salvaged what I could, and then filled that sucker up.  Here is what I came up with (this is 2 weeks after it was created):

Now they just need to grow....I will be (im)patiently waiting and will post an update when it fills out.

Love,
Nae

5 years

Matt and I celebrated our 5 year anniversary earlier this month.  It is crazy to think that it has been 5 years since we met--I still remember that night at Antone's like it was yesterday.  Thanks Cheryl (and Chelsea!) for dragging me to go see Brandon Rhyder and Adam Hood that night.  Had it not been for you, I would have never met my love :)

Here is the chalkboard that I quickly scribbled for Matt before he got home from work.

I wish I would have taken a picture of the two of us on our anniversary but I forgot.  I'm wearing the same dress to a wedding in a few weeks so I'll take a pic then and call it good.

Organized panty

Do you know how hard it is to take pictures of my teeny tiny pantry in my almost as small kitchen???  I dream of pantries like these:

And all the other fabulous and rediculously large pantries that people have. Unfortunately I am not so lucky, so I have to find inspiration that matches my pantry:

And then I saw this video and realized I wanted to be just like her I knew exactly what I needed to solve my problem. So I went to Amazon (which should just be renamed Amazing, because it basically is) and ordered a lazy susan.

So here is my now organized pantry:

Top shelf: extras (spices, drinks, etc) and paper towels
Second Shelf: Breakfast Items (left) and Condiments on Lazy Susan (Right)
Third Shelf: Drink Station--hold Keurig pods, cups, coffee grinds, sweeteners, etc (Right) and Grains and Legumes (Left)

Fourth Shelf: Snack Basket (Left) and Dry Goods (Right)
Bottom Shelf: Canned goods.  Like all the green beans I canned??? Thanks dad :)
Floor: Addie's food (which I had to label because people kept throwing trash in there!!) and extras

My favorite part??  The over the door hanger that houses my new flip top bottles. Please ignore the black strip in the back..it is old velcro that I can't remove.

The whole pantry looks so much better in person...you can actually see all the labels.  It makes me smile now :)

Sources:
Plastic Tubs: Wal-Mart
Lazy Susan: OXO from Amazon
Dry Good Container: OXO from Target
Pop Top Bottles: Ikea
Over Door Hanger: Wal-Mart.

Nae

And so it begins..

Hi seester!  I am starting this blog so you can see all the fun that happens around the house :) Maybe I'll keep up with it :)

Love,
Nae
